JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – The Univeristy of Jamestown basketball teams played their conference home opener on Friday night against Waldorf. The women rolled to an easy win while the men dropped a close one.

#8 Jimmies 81, Waldorf 50
Bryn Woodside (SR/Albert Lea, MN) scored 15 points and Mackenzie Sparby (FR/Watford City) added a career-high 11 as the eighth-ranked Jimmie women’s basketball team remained undefeated in North Star Athletic Association conference play with an 81-50 win over Waldorf (Iowa) University Friday evening.
Jamestown (12-2, 3-0 NSAA) jumped out to a 24-7 lead after the first quarter, holding the Warriors to 1-of-12 shooting.
Leading 44-29 with 7:02 to play in the third quarter, UJ ran off 10 straight points over the next two minutes and 15 seconds to extend their lead to 25. Another 10-0 run beginning with five seconds left in the third quarter until the 5:32 mark of the fourth quarter gave Jamestown its biggest advantage of the night, 38 points, at 74-36.
Jenna Doyle (JR/Princeton, MN) finished with 10 points and five blocks for the Jimmies, who also got strong performances off the bench from Emma Stoehr (FR/Woodbury, MN) (9 points, 3 assists) and Mackensi Higlin (FR/Mandan, ND) (9 points, 6 rebounds).
Morgan Straight and Taylor Fricke both had nine points to lead Waldorf (3-7, 1-1 NSAA).
The Jimmies outshot the Warriors .431-.358 and had a 39-36 rebounding advantage. Waldorf committed 30 turnovers, leading to 31 Jamestown points.

The 18th-ranked Jimmie men’s basketball team, coming off a pair of road losses last weekend to open the North Star Athletic Association conference season, looked to get on track against Waldorf (Iowa) University Friday night at Harold Newman Arena.
Kevin Oberweiser (JR/Drummond, Mont.)’s three-pointer with 4:39 in the game gave Jamestown a four-point lead, but the Warriors scored eight of the next 10 points to retake a lead they would not give up and handed the Jimmies a 71-68 defeat.
Jamestown (9-5, 0-3 NSAA) shot 51 percent for the game, making 13 of 21 shots inside the three-point line, but struggled at the foul line by hitting on only six of 11 attempts. The Warriors shot 44.4 percent overall and were 18 of 27 (66.7 percent) on free throws.
Leighton Sampson (SR/Worthington, Minn.) had 19 points and 7 rebounds to lead UJ. Sam Johnson (SR/Mora, Minn.) drained five three-pointers on the way to 16 points, and Oberweiser was also in double figures, finishing with 14.
Waldorf (5-7, 2-0 NSAA) put three players in double digits, with Kaden Verdin’s 18 points and nine rebounds leading the way. Falmata Tua added 16 and Brady Kuchinka 13.
