VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCSUVikings.com)- Mackenzie Huber scored on the first three possessions of the game and the undefeated Valley City State University Vikings never trailed in a dominating 73-49 win over the Waldorf University Warriors.
With the victory Saturday in Valley City, the Viking women’s basketball team improves to 10-0 overall and 3-0 in the North Star Athletic Association. Waldorf University drops to 3-8 on the year, including 1-2 in the North Star Athletic Association.
The Vikings started off strong Saturday by taking a lead on the first possession of the game. Valley City went on to lead in the first half by as many as 20 points, scoring a total of 39 points in the half. The defense for the Vikings was also very strong, holding Waldorf to only 19 first-half points on 6-for-30 shooting.
The second half, although much closer, was still all Vikings with VCSU extending its lead to as many as 29 points in the second half. The Vikings had three players in double figures on the day with Huber scoring 16 and adding seven rebounds. She was followed by Lexi Lennon who scored 14 on the day, and Hannah Schlecht who scored 10 points on 5-8 shooting from the field.
The Vikings shot 50 percent in the game, going 32-for-64 overall. VCSU was 5-for-18 on 3’s and 4-for-6 at the free throw line. Waldorf finished at 29 percent shooting overall (17-59), 13 percent on 3’s (2-13) and 59 percent at the line (13-22).
Waldorf also had three players score in double figures with Michaela Graffunder and Taylor Fricke scoring 10 points each and Morgan Straight adding 12 points of her own.
