N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Grayden Stone scored two second period goals and Bismarck held off a fierce third period rally by Jamestown in a 3-2 win Thursday night in West Region hockey at the John L. Wilson Arena.
Stone scored a power play goal 1:07 into the second period to give Bismarck a 2-0 lead. He would add an even strength goal with 5:40 to go in the period to make it 3-0 Demons heading into the final period. Stone leads Bismarck with six goals on the season. Joey Heinert got the scoring started with his third of the year 1:31 into the game.
But Jamestown, playing its home opener, scored two goals 2:27 apart midway through the third period to make things interesting.. Parker Stockert scored his fourth of the season on a nifty pass from Baylee Hatlewick with 6:42 to go in the third period. Hatlewick picked up the puck in his own zone, then skated the length of the ice and slipped a nice back handed pass to Stockert who re-directed it past Austin Martin to cut Bismarck’s lead to 3-1. It was the first goal allowed by Martin this season in three games Devin Hofmann would make it a one goal game with an unassisted power play goal with 9:09 to go.
The Blue Jays would have a power play for the final 49.3 seconds of the game when Grayden Stone went off for high sticking. But Jamestown never got a good shot off with the extra attacker as the game ended.
Matthew Schneider made 50 saves for Jamestown while Martin made 21. Which is one less then he had in the first two games combined.
Bismarck is now 5-0 on the year and 2-0 in the West Region. Jamestown falls to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the West. The Blue Jays host Williston on Saturday afternoon.
