N.D. (NewsDakota.com) — Maj. Gen. Al Dohrmann, North Dakota adjutant general, made the following statement regarding the death of a North Dakota National Guard Soldier, Sgt. Travis Sundeen, who passed away on Nov. 12 in Belcourt.

“We are exceptionally sad to learn of the death of one our National Guard Soldiers”, said Dohrmann. “Our entire North Dakota National Guard family sends its condolences and best wishes to Travis’ family and friends during this of extreme sorrow. We salute his service to our nation, state and communities.”

Sundeen enlisted into the North Dakota Army National Guard Sept. 2007 and served as a water purification specialist with the Grand Forks-based 132nd Quartermaster Company. He deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from Nov. 2011 to Aug. 2012 with the Wahpeton-based 188th Engineer Company. Most recently, he was assigned to the 817th Engineer Company (Sapper) from Jamestown.

His military awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Award (2 awards); Army Good Conduct Medal; Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3 awards); National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; North Dakota National Guard Service Medal (2 awards); and the North Dakota National Guard Basic Training Ribbon. Sundeen was also authorized the North Dakota Army National Guard Outstanding Unit Citation.

Sundeen’s funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Sunday, Nov. 19 at the Elick Funeral Home in Rolla, North Dakota. Burial will take place at All Nations Lutheran Cemetery.
