N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown City Councilman Ramone Gumke has announced he will not be running for re-election in 2018.

“I am not running for the council seat, but will be running for a County Commission seat instead,” Gumke told NewsDakota.

Gumke first took the council seat in 2010, defeating Scott Walch and Francis Silbernagel. He said he’s decided that two terms was a personal limit for one position.

“I’ve always thought people tend to stay in office too long and become complacent, so two terms was always my personal limit for one position,” he stated. “Making a change presents new issues and problems to address to keep me fresh and ambitious.”

Both Gumke’s and Mayor Katie Andersen’s seats will be up for election in 2018. No word has been received on if Mayor Andersen will be seeking re-election.
