CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Residents raised concerns about the increasing cost of treating water at the new Valley City water treatment plant back in April of 2016.
Now, the city believes they have evidence to show that a higher concentration of Devils Lake water is causing the ultra-filtration system to work harder.
City Administrator David Schelkoph said the city will be asking the State Water Commission for $874,000 to replace a filter and other items.
Water Treatment Plant Supervisor Wade Hesch said the tap water is of good quality and safe to drink. But he said the city now has proof that Devils Lake water is costing more money to treat city water.
Part of the State Water Commission’s mitigation plan includes providing funding to city and county entities if they can prove Devils Lake water is causing erosion or costing more for municipalities to treat their water.
