LAKE WALES, FLA. (VCSUVikings.com) – Lexi Lennon scored a career-high 30 points and the Valley City State defense allowed just 21 second-half points Saturday night as the Viking women’s basketball team completed its Florida trip with a 69-53 victory over Warner University.
Lennon went 18-for-22 on free throws as part of her game-high 30 points. She also had three assists and four steals. Kennedy Henningsgard went 2-for-2 on 3’s and finished with 11 points. Kate Williams knocked down a pair of 3’s as well, finishing the game with 10 points, five assists and three steals.
Alli Vandal added eight points while Mackenzie Huber (5), Paige Meyer (3) and Hannah Schlecht (2) all found the scoring column as well.
The Vikings trailed 21-13 after the first quarter and 32-26 at halftime before stepping up their defense in the second half. VCSU limited Warner to just 21 percent shooting in the second half (6-29) as they outscored Warner 43-21 over the final two periods.
The Vikings shot just 34 percent overall (15-44) and 30 percent on 3’s (6-20). VCSU attempted 48 free throws though and made 33 – including 17 in the fourth quarter. Warner University shot 30 percent from the field (18-61), 29 percent on 3’s (6-21) and went 11-for-16 at the free throw line.
Valley City State improves to 3-0 this season after posting a 2-0 record on the trip to Florida.
