N.D.(VCSUVikings.com)- The Valley City State University volleyball team dropped a three-set match to No. 19-ranked University of Jamestown on Friday afternoon.
The Jimmies played well on their home court as they picked up the victory by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-14.
Valley City State drops to 14-12 overall and 8-7 in the North Star Athletic Association.VCSU will close out the regular season Saturday at Dickinson State. The Vikings will be the No. 4-seed for the six-team NSAA Postseason Tournament which will be played Nov. 10-11 in La Crosse, Wis.
University of Jamestown improves to 20-7 overall and 13-2 in conference play. The Jimmies have locked up the No. 2 seed for the NSAA Tournament.
After Jamestown won a tight first set, Valley City State came back strong to start set two. The teams went back-and-forth through the first half of the set before Clarissa Olson’s kill put the Vikings up 14-12. The Jimmies responded by scoring 11 straight points – including five kills by Morgan Hensch – as they built a commanding 23-14 lead en route to the 25-15 victory.
The Jimmies started fast and never trailed in set three to wrap up the match.
Jamestown outhit VCSU in the match, .287 to .053. VCSU had two aces and five serving errors. The Jimmies totaled seven aces and six serving errors.
Megan Johnson led the Vikings with eight kills. Paige Benson totaled six kills and Clarissa Olson added five. Leah Ruter had 15 assists and an ace. The Viking defense was led by Hailie Wilds with nine digs, Polette Medina with eight and Charlotte Huschka with seven.
