N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–Allen Jevning rushed for 77 yards and scored two 4th quarter touchdowns to seal a 27-14 UJ victory over the Mayville St. U. (MSU) comets. Jevning had 16 attempts (4.8 average) on the day. The Jimmies would score the only points in the first half on a Jimmy Hatch 1 yard run on the first play of the second quarter. Leading 7-0 at the break, the Jimmies would build a 14-0 lead on Jordan Mann’s touchdown pass to Nick Thompson from 4 yards with 8:18 toplay in the 3rd quarter. Mann making his first collegiate start completed 12-24 passes for 123 yards with 1 TD and 1 interception. The Comets pressured Mann all game long but only managed 1 quarterback sack. Thompson finished with 2 receptions for 18 yards. Branden Edwards led the Jimmies with 4 receptions and 63 receiving yards. Hatch finished the contest with 69 yards rushing on 11 carries and Jackson He finished with 40 yards on 11 attempts.
Defensively, the Jimmies were led by junior linebacker Caleb Ellingson’s 11 tackles (8 solo). Senior cornerback Keith Rogers added 10 tackles (9 solo) and sophomore defensive lineman Gavin Pancirov had 2 quarterback sacks. The Jimmies outgained MSU 351-311.
Creighton Pfau, sophomore quarterback, completed 27 of 52 passes for 242 yards and 1 touchdown. Pfau connected with Darrel Wilson on a 6 yard TD pass with 11:50 to go in the game cutting the UJ lead to 14-7. Wilson finished with 5 catches for 65 yards. Hunter McCall, junior from Wahpeton had a big day, hauling in a game high 12 receptions for 119 yards. UJ held the Comets to a meager 69 rushing yards on 25 attempts. Pfau led the Comets with 28 rushing yards, including the final score of the game with just :26 left in the contest from 1 yard.
UJ improves to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in NSAA play. The Comets dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in the NSAA. The Jimmies will host Valley City State on Saturday (Nov. 4th) for the coveted Paint Bucket Trophy. Kickoff will be at 1:00
