week, the River Cleanup Task Force came before the Stutsman County Commission seeking matching funds for the 0,000 Community Development Block Grant put forth by the state. The funds would need to be matched in order for them to be distributed for the river cleanup.
Jamestown Mayor Katie Andersen was present at the county commission meeting and was asked if she would bring the issue forth to the city council.
Mayor Andersen reported that she and City Auditor Jeff Fuchs had discussed different ways the city could find funding to match the grant. She says the city has a lot of reasons why they should at least help match the grant.
Andersen says while they don’t know where they would get the money, there has been discussion on how the city could put for money for the grant match. Some of these include the city infrastructure fund, sewer utility, and vector control. Fuchs said there were some other meetings that would need to take place with discussions before a solid plan was put in place.
Mayor Andersen informed the council that because the commission did not have any funding that could be put forth, it might come down to the city to fully match the grant and be compensated at a later time.
More discussion will come forth to the city council in November.
