undefeated Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter and Hankinson went down to the final seconds before the Imperials pulled out a 21-14 victory.
It appeared the Imperials, ranked #5 in the state, would coast to the quarterfinals after jumping out to a quick 21-0 lead, thanks to three TD runs from standout RB Nathan Weigel. The Junior scored on runs of 52, 5, and 35 yards and put his team up by three touchdowns midway through quarter number two. Weigel has now scored 19 rushing touchdowns this year and he has rushed for over 1500 yards on the season.
The Pirates got back in the game with a couple of late second quarter TD passes from Senior Mason Falk, his 20th and 21st scoring tosses of the season, and cut the deficit down to 21-14 at half.
The hot passing arm of Falk continued in the second half, but the NGS defense came up with a couple of huge interceptions to snuff out Pirate drives. Senior LB Drew Weigel picked off a pass at the Imperial 10 in quarter three, and Junior DB Jamison Fettig picked off a pass in the end zone midway through quarter four.
Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter at 9-0, will travel to #1 ranked Cavalier, 9-0, on Saturday, October 28th. This will be the third year in a row these two teams will square off in the post season.
Hankinson saw its season come to an end at 6-4.
