S.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – Despite gaining 516 yards of total offense and possessing the ball for nearly 36 minutes, the Jimmie football team found itself on the wrong end of a 40-22 score Saturday night.
Jimmy Hatch (SO/Sacramento, Calif.) (118) and Jackson He (FR/Chula Vista, Calif.) (112) combined for 230 of UJ’s 268 yards on the ground while Dylan Klatt (SR/Crookston, Minn.) threw for 248 and three scores as the Jimmies posted their highest single-game yardage total of the year.
Presentation scored three first-half touchdowns, including a 40-yard interception return by Eric Bell, to build a 20-7 halftime lead.
Klatt found He on an 8-yard pass with 12 seconds in the first quarter to get the Jimmies on the board and cut the Saints’ lead to 13-7.
Neither team was able to put points on the board in the second quarter until Zachary Sebern ran three yards with 1:22 left in the half to give the Saints a 20-7 lead following Jaiden Machuca’s extra point.
Jamestown found themselves down 27-7 after an Austin Eggl 27-yard pass to WIlliam Moffett and Machuca kick with 12 seconds left in the third. The Jimmies piled up 121 yards on their three third-quarter drives, but two of them were ended on downs.
James Hagen (FR/Henderson, Nev.) was on the receiving end of a 46-yard pass by Klatt that cut the Presentation lead to 27-14 after Chandler Johnson (FR/Albuquerque, N.M.) converted the extra point with 9:15 in the fourth.
The Saints found the end zone on their next drive and Eggl and Moffett connected again on a scoring play, this time from 21 yards out, to make it 33-14.
UJ wasted little time in answering back, needing just three plays to find the end zone. Klatt threw his third touchdown pass of the game, a 52-yard strike to Tyler Shurtz (SO/Safford, Ariz.), and He ran in the two-point conversion to make it a 33-22 game with 5:17 left.
Presentation capped off the scoring on Sebern’s second rushing touchdown with 1:40 left to play from four yards out, and the game ended 40-22.
Klatt completed 17 of 37 passes to seven different receivers in the game, including four to He and three each to Shurtz, Hagen, and Branden Edwards (SR/Apache Junction, Ariz.). Shurtz had a team-high 77 yards receiving and Hagen 76.
Defensively, the Jimmies were led by Keith Rogers (SR/San Diego, Calif.) and Caleb Ellingson (JR/Jamestown, N.D.) with eight tackles each. Rogers was also credited with a forced fumble and fumble recovery and three pass breakups. Andrew Jensen (JR/Gardnerville, Nev.) had the lone UJ sack of the night among his four tackles.
Eggl was 21-of-33 passing for 245 yards and three touchdowns. Sebern carried 19 times for a game-high 138 yards. Moffet caught eight passes for 134 yards and Logan Weisser had eight grabs for 82 yards and a touchdown.
The win improves the Saints’ mark to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in NSAA competition. Jamestown falls to 1-6 and 1-3 in conference.
UJ returns home Saturday to host conference-leading Dickinson State (N.D.), who defeated Waldorf 45-0 Saturday.
