Saturday
afternoon in Double A football action at Roller Field, and pulled out a 14-13 victory over Jamestown.

The game featured a pair of top five 5-2 teams, with home field advantage at stake for the upcoming playoffs.

After an early Blue Jay turnover that led to a Firebirds TD, Jamestown responded with a pair of second quarter scores.

Senior RB Zach Petrek finished off a eight play 53 yard drive with a 3 yard dash, and Junior RB Brandon Dallmann bounced outside and scored from 6 yards out to polish off a 4 Play 23 yard drive. The short field was set up by a big punt return by Senior Jared Harr. The p.a.t. hit  the left upright and ricocheted off to the side.

The score stood at 13-7 Blue Jays at halftime.

After neither team put up points in the third quarter. It appeared the 13-7 lead would hold up, especially after Junior punter Jared Kallenbach pinned the Firebirds deep with a great punt that was downed at the four midway through the fourth.

Despite terrible field position, Devils Lake was able to move the ball out to their own 35. That is when things got goofy. On second and short, Senior QB Jagger Miller threw a deep ball that was grossly under thrown. A pair of Blue Jay Defenders went for the pick and had the ball bounce off their hands and flutter down field to wide open Receiver Joey Hornstein who raced in for a 65 yard TD pass. The extra point put the Firebirds up by one.

Jamestown was able to move the ball to the Devils Lake 18 yard line but a fourth down pass attempt to the end zone was knocked down with 14 seconds to go.

Jamestown fell to 5-3 and slide down to Fourth place in the Standings.

Next up is the regular season finale at Grafton on Saturday the 21st at 2:pm. Win or lose, the Jays have already clinched a playoff spot.
