VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- The Valley City High School Hi-Liner Student Congress team traveled to the West Student Congress tournament this past Monday, October 9th. Twenty two students competed at the tournament. Many of the team members debated well with several just out of top 5 range.

. Nita Warcken-Petersen’s resolution on the recent military ban of transgender people serving in our military will be debated in House I at the state tournament and Londine Marcellus’s resolution on animal testing will be debated in House VI.

Two Valley City students were elected as the Presiding Officer of their respective chambers at the West Congress tournament. To be elected as the Presiding Officer is a huge honor as a congress competitor. Abby Slyter, a senior,  was elected by her peers to be the Presiding Officer of the Senate Chambers and Luke Plagens, a freshman, was elected by his peers to be the Presiding Officer of House V.
