N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Members of the recently assembled task force created by the Stutsman County Water Resource Board (SCWR) came before the Stutsman County Commission Tuesday in hopes of finding a match for a potential $50,000 grant.

District 12 Senator John Grabinger and Task Committee member Joan Morris were at Tuesday’s commission meeting to see if the commission would be interested in matching a grant from the State Water Commission for $50,000.

Grabinger reported that the task force was denied the grant earlier this year.

Grabinger says some funding has become available through the Community Development Block Grant fund, with some of those funds being discretionary for the Governor. Grabinger said he was bringing it forward to the county commission because of their upcoming budget talks.

Commission Chairman Mark Klose expressed concern on becoming the lead agency for the grant, saying he was unsure where the funds would come from.

“We can’t increase the mill levy anymore, so I don’t know where these funds are going to come from,” he replied.

Following some discussion on ways the county could make it work, it was decided that they would approve being the lead agency on the grant with the possibility of finding the funding later and through different ways.

The grant will be used to cleanup Stutsman County rivers and in hopes of avoiding potentially costly damage repairs in the future to the county’s infrastructure.
