West Fargo came to play.  They were ready from the start.  They came in, just played tennis, and walked out with a 4-1 win.  This is the second season in a row that West Fargo came in as the 9 seed and Valley City the 8 seed and won.  They deserve the credit for the win today.

I believed we had our team prepped mentally for today’s match, but we weren’t. I failed as a coach to make that happen.  We didn’t lose because we had less skill.  We didn’t lose because we were in worse shape.  We lost because we weren’t mentally in the game.  I, along with our coaching staff, need to find a way to get our players to just play tennis no matter the situation.

This loss doesn’t define our season.  Our players this season are the most coachable.  They have the best team atmosphere.  They have the most belief in each other and the coaches.  They hit the pillars the best of 100% effort, positive attitude, and sportsmanship.  With all those intangibles, they also have the tangible of two more wins on this season than any other season in 12 years with a total of 5.  Our team has a great culture.  The next step is turning our great culture into a great culture that is also competitive at all times.

Even though our team season is done, we still have the individual regional tournament on Friday and Saturday in Fargo.  Riley Miller and Liam Williams will be in the hunt to state qualify in the doubles draw.
