N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – To say that Jerome Byndloss (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) and Tanner Roundy (JR/Henderson, NV) played Monday’s game against Mayville State with heavy hearts would be an understatement.
Less than 24 hours after finding they had lost close friends and classmates in the Las Vegas shooting, both Byndloss and Roundy were in the UJ starting lineup and delivered memorable performances in helping the Jimmies to a 7-0 win at Jack Brown Stadium.
Byndloss (2-0) pitched six shutout innings while allowing only four hits and striking out six, and Roundy went 2-for-4 with a home run and double.
With Jamestown leading 1-0 entering the bottom of the second, Roundy homered on the first pitch he saw from Conner Starke (0-1) to double the Jimmie lead. Three batters later, Jaden Yackley connected on a two-run bomb against Carl Bremer, making it 4-0.
UJ added single runs in each of the third, fourth, and fifth innings, going up 7-0 and giving Byndloss more than enough run support. Beau Rabedeaux, August Fultz , and Seth Pigg each worked a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the shutout.
Roundy, Yackley, Kory Wolden , and Quinn Irey each had two of Jamestown’s 13 hits. Yackley finished with three RBI and Irey knocked in a pari.
Makaio Duyao was 2-for-3 including a double for Mayville State and also robbed Roundy of a second home run, going up and over the fence to make a spectacular catch.
The Jimmies improved to 4-0 this fall and will host Valley City State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Mayville State ends the fall season at 2-4.
