JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public School approved a $28.8 million budget during their Monday meeting October 2nd.

The Jamestown Public School District will see an increase of roughly 7.6% tax levy in order to fulfill the 2017-18 budget. Superintendent Rob Lech reports that they will be operating at a deficit, but doesn’t see this as insurmountable.

The district would be operating with a $178,000 deficit projected by the end of the year.

The board then discussed certification of levy to increase the school district general fund to 69 mills. This will be a $19.40 increase from 2016. Richard Klose of Jamestown addressed the board during the open hearing of the discussion. He supported the increase in taxes for the teachers and students, but not for athletics.
