Coach’s Comments
We played our best tennis today on Varsity and on JV. The JV was very competitive beating GFC’s JV 7-6 including 7 matches that were within 2 games. The JV has the EDC JV tournament on this Saturday which is their last match on the year.
Liam and Riley played their best tennis in spurts today in doubles. In the second set, we played phenomenal coming back from behind to take the lead at 6-5. From that point on, we played tentative and lost that next game and the tie-breaker. If we could just let loose and play like we did to get to six games, the sky is the limit for these two seniors!
Jack Ingstad had the best match of his career today in singles. He played each point fully with excellent footwork, split stepping, belief, and he kept his athletic stance and balance while he hit accelerating through his stroke. He looked like a tennis player for the whole match today. Great work.
Blake Triebold continues to be the best fighter on the team. He always uses his grit and determination to try to win every point every match.
Zach Baumgartner played his best today as well as he moved his feet and hit the ball deeper today. He moved the ball well and played each point. Nice job, Zach!
Collin and Trevor played well int he doubles. Collin takes a little bit to warm up. I may play a set against him on Monday before our match so he is running on all cylinders! These two are potent together as Collin has a good ground stroke game and Trevor a good net game.
Derek Bear played his first varsity match today and won more games than any other singles player on the day. He has worked hard in the offseason and has improved tremendously in season. We have two seniors on the team – but we will have 13 returning players that all have the potential to play varsity next year. Derek is one of those players and could challenge for a varsity spot next season.
Next action for the varsity is Monday for the play-in match. As Fargo North and West Fargo are playing tomorrow, we will not know a location and opponent for sure until the completion of that match. The winner of that match moves on to the regional tournament on Thursday. The loser’s team season is done.
