Coach’s Comments

The doubles and the majority of the first sets in singles were tough to watch.  We weren’t moving the feet.  We weren’t prepping.  We weren’t having fun.  We put too much pressure on ourselves to win the match.

Then – things clicked.  Liam went from 0-5 down in the first set to bring it back to 4-5 deuce before dropping the set.  Jack and Collin started having fun, moving the feet, and playing aggressive tennis in their second sets and were very fun to watch as a coach and a spectator.  Zach won the second most games on the day and he did so with moving well and setting his feet.

We need to find a way to come out of the gates with that same level of fun, footwork, and racquet prep.  We can’t wait until we are down 0-3 and in the second set of singles before we start truly playing.  We have to start that way.  Tomorrow, we have two matches against Bismarck Legacy and Century to figure this out!

Blake moved up to two doubles and 5 singles today.  He got a very good taste of what its like to play stiffer opponents.  Just the one spot in singles and doubles is a big jump.  He worked hard with determination.  He will improve because of these matches.

Riley won the first set and then dropped the second.  All other matches were over at that time, so they had a crowd watching them.  Riley played each point to win with good footwork, confidence, and strategy.  Riley kept taking the net over and putting away the ball.  He ended up winning the match as our only win on the day.
