S.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – After totalling just 391 yards of total offense in the season’s first two games, the Jimmie football team cracked the 400-yard barrier in a 49-12 loss to Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) Saturday.
The loss drops the Jimmies to 0-3, marking the fourth time in the last six seasons Jamestown has lost three straight to open the season.
The Tigers received the opening kickoff and went 87 yards in 15 plays for the game’s first touchdown. Dillon Turner completed an 8-yard pass to Tyler Fortuna and Seth Paulson’s extra point made it 7-0.
DWU doubled their lead on Turner’s six-yard touchdown run with 4:34 left in the quarter.
Turner threw his second and third scoring passes of the game in the second quarter, connecting with Tyler Larson on a 28-yard pass, then hooking up with Hayden Adams on a 77-yard scoring play to make it 28-0 at the half.
The second half saw the Tigers increase their lead thanks to their ground game. Luke Loudenburg ran untouched up the middle 42 yards to make it 35-0, then Turner went 22 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the game, upping the lead to 42-0 with 7:54 left in the third quarter.
Jamestown ended the shutout as Josh Verghis (SR/Fargo, N.D.) scored his first career touchdown on a 10-yard pass from Dylan Klatt(SR/Crookston, Minn.). The extra point was no good, and UJ trailed 42-6 with 2:59 in the third quarter.
Gaige Marshall ended the Dakota Wesleyan scoring with an 8-yard run at 7:32 of the fourth quarter to make it 49-6.
Jordan Mann (SO/Bismarck, N.D.) found Tyler Shurtz (SO/Safford, Ariz.) for a 31-yard pass to give the Jimmies their second score of the game, and the final score ended 49-12.
