(NewsDakota.com) The Linton-HMB and Oakes High football teams had a battle on Friday night. Plenty of scoring, plenty of big plays, and plenty of long down-and-distance situations.
In the end, it was the visiting Lions who held on for a 44-34 victory. The hometown Tornadoes were down 36-15 with a little under seven minutes to go in the third before pulling to within two points with eight minutes left in the fourth. Oakes missed a chance to tie on a two point conversion, let the Lions deliberately score with over a minute to go to give them an eight point lead, but quarterback Cole Baumiller ran in the two-point conversion to essentially seal the win.
Linton’s Landon Twardoski had four rushing touchdowns to keep the Lion’s record perfect at 4-0, and 2-0 in Class B Region III. Oakes had three touchdown passes from Garret Meehl, including two from Tyler Voightman in the loss, which places Oakes at 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the region.
Oakes heads on the road next Friday to take on the Imperials of Napoleon-Gackle/Streeter in Napoleon. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:30 p.m., with kickoff at 7.
