(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School volleyball team won their first match of the season with a 3-0 sweep of Milnor-North Sargent Tuesday night by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-14.

The Tornadoes (1-1, 0-0 Class B District 5) started out a little slow in the first set, down five points early before rebounding to win the set. The second set was just the reverse, with the Bulldogs (3-5, 1-1 Class B Region I) rallying late to make it a close finish. The third set was dominated by Oakes, and they never looked back.

Nicole Schmitz lead the way for Oakes with eight aces and nine kills. Marisa Garza had three aces and three kills, while Sadie Hansen had two aces and three kills. MNS had an ace and four kills from Victoria Sandness.

Oakes now heads out on the road for the first time in the 2017 season Thursday when they visit the two-time defending State Champions of LaMoure-Litchville/Marion. Coverage from LaMoure starts around 7 p.m. on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com.
