‘Babe’ West, 91, Jamestown, ND, died early Monday morning, September 4, 2017 at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
Agnes Maybelle Alm was born December 12, 1925 on the family farm near Edmore, ND, the daughter of Minnie (Knudtson) Alm and Gustav Alm. She attended the local school in Triumph and Newbre Townships and graduated from Central High School in Devils Lake, ND. Following graduation she moved to Seattle, WA. She was employed by the Pacific Telephone Company. She was an active member of the USO in Bremerton, WA, where she met and married the love of her life, James (Lefty) West. Agnes and Jim began their life together in Klamath Falls, OR before moving to Devils Lake, ND where Agnes began her career with the ASCS office for the federal government. In 1968, they made their home in Broomfield, Colorado, where her husband Jim died on October 29, 1968.
Agnes returned to Devils Lake, ND following the death of Jim, where she continued her employment with the ASCS office, working for over 30 years. In 2004 she moved to Jamestown to be closer to family.
She was an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Devils Lake, ND and life member of the WELCA. Agnes had a strong faith and was true servant to God and others.
She is survived by loving family members, Susan (Steve) Senger, Jamestown, ND; Terry (Sherlyn) West, Grand Forks, ND; 3 grandchildren, James, Carrie and Jennifer; 5 great-grandchildren, Sierra, Morgan, Cole, Morgan and Austin; Jim (Sharon) Schaedler, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers, Glen, Virgil, Robert, and Larry; 3 sisters, Clara Dammen, Lorraine Besse and Florence Kringstad; and a very special friend, Harley Gilbertson.
Celebration of Life – 10:30 AM Friday, October 20, 2017 in the Haut Funeral Chapel in Jamestown, ND
Burial will take place in the Devils Lake Cemetery, Devils Lakes, ND.
