, sweeping a pair of matches at the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational in Northfield, Minn

The Vikings made quick work of their two opponents Friday, needing just six sets on the day.VCSU swept Martin Luther College, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-20 in the first match of the day. In match two, the Vikings downed Carroll University by scores of 25-17, 26-24 and 25-21. Both Martin Luther and Carroll are NCAA Division III schools.

Valley City State improves to 2-4 overall this season. The Vikings play two more matches on Saturday against North Central University and Carleton College.

VCSU 3, Martin Luther College 0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20)

The Vikings hit .229 and tallied six blocks in match one, rolling to the sweep over Martin Luther.

Polette Medina led a balanced attack with nine kills and 15 digs in the match. Clarissa Olson tallied eight kills; Paige Benson had seven kills; and Megan Johnson posted six kills with no errors for a .545 hitting percentage.

Leah Ruter totaled 17 assists in the match, and Charlotte Huschka picked up nine digs.

VCSU 3, Carroll University 0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-21)

Valley City State completed its day with another sweep against Carroll University, albeit in a closer match.

The Vikings were able to separate themselves at the service line, serving up 13 service aces and taking advantage of 13 service errors by Carroll.

Hailie Wilds had a strong match with team highs of seven aces and 19 digs. Leah Ruter posted 20 assists, three aces and 15 digs.

Clarissa Olson led the attack with 10 kills and a .368 attack percentage. Megan Johnson added six kills. Both Megan Johnson and Nissa Johnson had five block assists in the match as the Vikings tallied eight block points.
