Lina Maria Hicks was born February, 25 1926 at rural Page, North Dakota. She was the oldest of six children. She gained her early education at the Beaver school in Cass County. The family moved to a farm in Barnes County, where she attended Minnie Lake Dist. 29 and completed the first 8 grades. She was a happy child and in spite of the nickname that neighbors gave her, “Pete” – she was all girl. Her interests were cooking and housekeeping, so began her reputation as a good cook. She was employed by the Pillsbury school as an assistant cook.
She was united in marriage to Russell Wayne Brudevold on December 8, 1946 and began their life together on a farm a few miles from his parental home near Page, ND. She was a typical farm wife of the day. They began their love of travel and many camping trips, including all of 48 states. They spent many winters in Arizona. In 1993 Russell retired from farming and then they spent many summer vacations pulling a camper to Holter Dam, Montana.
