ND – Authorities are warning people about an old scam that is active again.
The caller tells you they are a computer technician and then with your permission remote access your computer and lock it up. They blackmail you into paying money to unlock your computer.

A caller told NewsDakota.com that if the number 171-988-7255 shows up on your caller I.D. hang up and call police and report it.

The caller claims to be representing Microsoft or Windows. Recently people from Valley City, New Rockford and Bismarck have received calls like these from these scam artists.
