NAPOLEON, N.D. (Napoleon Homestead) – The Napoleon City Council hired a new police chief to patrol the town recently.

Officer Troy Nogosek started the new position on August 14.

“It’s been good,” said Nogosek of his first few days on the job. “People here are so friendly and helpful. It’s a slower pace of life and it’s where I want to be.”

Nogosek grew up in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1996. After graduation he earned an associate degree in computer support from Bismarck State College, then a management degree from Minot State
University. In 2008 Nogosek switched it up a bit and decided to receive a master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University.

“I wanted to find something to help people in a better way and make an impact.”

Troy has 15 years of computer experience, along with five years of law enforcement experience.

Before moving to Napoleon recently and starting with the Napoleon Police Department, he worked safety and security at Walmart in Bismarck. Some of his past law enforcement jobs have included working in Burleigh, Adams,
Kidder and Mercer Counties as a deputy sheriff.

He said the job includes a lot of benefits such as, “Making an impact on someone, especially kids. And, saving someone,” he added. “That’s the kind of stuff that’s worth it; any time you help someone.”

Nogosek said the job does come with challenges. “Trying to do the job and leaving a positive impression on people can be a challenge,” he explained of some people’s mind sets.

In the future Troy said he would like to get involved in the community somehow, whether that’s getting into the schools to talk to kids or other activities around town. He is hoping people reach out for help if they have concerns or problems.

Outside of work Troy enjoys working with computers, martial arts, reading and said he is a “big movie guy” and his favorite film is the Lord of the Rings.

Troy and his wife, April, have two children, Prescott (15) and Scarlett (14), who reside in Bismarck for now, but the family would like to all be in Napoleon.
