N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – After over two years of service to Foster County, Sheriff Ian Mattice has issued his resignation from the department.
Sheriff Mattice explained to the Foster County Commission Friday during a special meeting that the commission would need to elect someone to serve as interim Sheriff by September 30th.
Mattice explained that deputies in the department were not ready for the responsibility of undertaking the Sheriff position. He requested that the commission wait to interview for his position until after he has left. He reports that whoever they appoint as interim or hire will need to be paid what it would have taken to keep him on as Sheriff.
He said his decision to resign came after he was offered his old position as LaMoure Police Chief. Foster County Commission Chairman Pat Copenhaver thanked Sheriff Mattice for his service.
Mattice was sworn is as Foster County Sheriff on January 26, 2015. He says he will continue to serve as Sheriff until October 1st.
