VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City residents will soon be getting a break on their flood insurance premiums.

Region VIII FEMA spokesperson Barb Denver was in Valley City on August 23 talking about the better rate the city earned through its flood protection efforts.

Valley City has more than 700 acres in the 100 year flood plain. City Building Inspector Dave Andersen said with FEMA’s Community Rating System, the city can earn credits to lower flood insurance premiums.

City Administrator David Schelkoph thanked Andersen for his hard work.

Valley City Mayor Dave Carlsrud said it was a team effort to get the better rating for the city.

Flood insurance premiums for Valley City residents will be reduced as the city continues to move forward with additional permanent flood protection projects.
