CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A plan is on the table to expand the North Dakota Winter Show Event Center by 33-hundred square feet for office space, a conference room and a ticket office in the future. The estimated cost is 0,000.
Valley City Barnes County Director of Economic Development Jennifer Feist said one proposal is to have the Valley Development Corporation purchase land owned by the NDWS to be used for the proposed project. The land is east of the Regional Technology Center or north of the North Dakota Winter Show. But she said more fire doors and a sprinkler system would have to be added to the structure according to city officials.
NDWS manager Dawn Riley and NDWS board president Pete Paulson said the new requirement for more fire doors may compromise the structure.
Riley and Paulson said the city told them that the fire doors would have to be installed whether they build a new structure or not.
The plan came to light during a Valley Development Corporation board meeting earlier this year after they said more office space is needed in the Rosebud Visitors Center. The current NDWS offices, now on the second floor of the Rosebud Visitors Center would move out once this proposed project is completed.
