N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Police Department is participating in the new “Officer Friendly” Community Policing Program.
The program was created for officers to acquaint children and young adults with law enforcement officials as part of a community relations campaign. In a Facebook post, the department says they conducted the program in the community on Thursday, August 2nd.
“Officer Friendly’s main focus is proactive Community Policing, where our officers go above and beyond in making positive citizen contacts with all people in our community,” the post states.
Officer Pat Nelson patrolled the city and says he made several positive contacts with many people.
“I had a great opportunity for children to see what it’s like to be inside a Jamestown police car, and I educated children and adults on certain police procedures,” Officer Nelson reports. “While out patrolling, I handed out police badge stickers, pencils, wrist bands and candy to Jamestown’s youth, and I also had the chance to play catch with a local 7th grader who I believe has some very serious football talent.”
