N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County 4-Hers had a strong showing at the recent North Dakota State Fair.
The following results are for Stutsman County 4-Hers only and include contest results, static exhibit results, sheep, goat, and horse. All information is provided courtesy of Robin Barnes and the NDSU Extension Service Stutsman County.

Contest Results:
Communication Arts – Held Sunday July 23rd at Minot – Victoria Christensen, Courtenay, received an Award of Excellence in the Serious Interpretive Speech senior division, Destiny Stedman, Carrington, received an award of participation in the Prepared Speech senior division, Chloe Smith, Ypsilanti, received an award of participation in the 4-H Promotion junior division, and Evyn Dick, Courtenay, received an award of excellence in the Demonstration junior division and an award of participation in the Presentation Software junior division.
Project Expo – Held Monday July 24th. Victoria Christensen, Courtenay, received a senior division award of excellence, Treazur Williamson, Montpelier, received a senior division award of participation, and Kylee Hofmann, Medina, received a junior division award of participation.
Clothing Revue – held Monday July 24th – Chloe Smith, Ypsilanti, received an award of participation in the Junior Sew & Show division. Victoria Christensen, Courtenay, received an award of participation in the Senior Buy & Show division. In the Junior Buy & Show division, Madison Hofmann, Medina, received an award of participation, and Kylee Hofmann, Medina, received an award of excellence.
Consumer Choices – This judging contest was held Tuesday July 25th. Junior team of Cheyana Marks, Ypsilanti, Evyn Dick, Courtenay, and Lance Kjellberg, Ypsilanti. Kjellberg placed 9th individually with over 60 junior competitors. Victoria Christensen, Courtenay, placed 9th individually in the senior division with over 30 competitors.
Static Exhibit Results:
NDSU Extension Stutsman County 4-H Program Coordinator Robin Barnes reports that Stutsman County had 35 exhibitors that sent their project to the state fair for 232 different exhibits. She says they only reported on Reserve and Champion recipients.
McKenna Barnick of Jamestown received Champion in Child Development, Environment and Home Environment.
Megan Brown of Jamestown received Champion in Food Preservation.
Victoria Christensen of Courtenay received Reserve in Child Development and Champion in Entomology, Money Management, Outdoor Skills – Fishing, Careers, and General Science Investigation.
Taylor Jansen of Adrian received Champion in Animal Science – Small Animals.
Nikolas Marks of Ypsilanti received Champion in two different Consumerism projects.
Lochlynn Steele of Montpelier received Reserve in Animal Science – Horse category.
Lynkin Steele of Montpelier received Champion in Creative Arts – Metal Arts.
Sheep Results:
We had 5 Stutsman county 4-H exhibitors in the sheep classes. Alex, Eva & Zachary Lahlum, Marion, all received blue ribbons. Isabel Schmidt, Medina, received all blues, a reserve in her weight group in the market ewe lamb class, and a grand in her weight group with her market wether. Kendra Cleghorn, Jamestown, received blues, a reserve in her weight group of market ewe lambs, a reserve champion Texel ewe, a grand champion Texel ewe, and a grand champion Texel ram.
Goat Results:
We had 3 Stutsman county 4-H exhibitors with their goats at the fair. Madison Letherman, Adrian, Isabel Schmidt, Medina, & Morgan Well, Jamestown all received blue ribbons with their entries. In addition, Well received a grand in her weight group in the market goat class, and Letherman received a reserve champion senior meat goat showmanship.
Horse Results:
We had one person from Stutsman county show at the state fair with her horse this year – Falynne Karlowsky, Cleveland. She and her horse Skiboat, placed 4th in the Ranch Horse Pleasure class for 12-14 year old riders. The state only recognizes those who place top 6 in the classes.
