N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Weekend Backpack for Kids program has helped numerous kids in the Jamestown area for the past 8 years and Community Action Region VI is looking to continue that program.

Food Pantry Coordinator Sarah Oberlander reports that since 2009, they’ve continued to gain numbers of those who participate in the weekly program.

The program is constantly looking for donations of food, funds or backpacks to keep it going. Oberlander pointed out that they have expanded the weekend program to all five schools in Jamestown in 2016.

She says the program starts in October and continues through the school year.

A planned Bikers for Kids ride is set for Saturday, August 5th sponsored by the It Is What It Is Motorcycle Club and Community Action Region VI. The ride will begin with registration at 10 AM and Kickstands going up at Noon. They will meet at Double D’s Hydroseeding & Landscaping. All proceeds raised will benefit the Backpack for Kids program.

The cost to participate is $15 per driver and $10 per passenger. Bikes and cars are all welcome.
