N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Police & Fire Committee further discussed recreational vehicles and trailers parking backwards on city streets Thursday evening.

Councilman Dan Buchanan pointed out that he was approached by an individual who had troubles with line of site after a camper had parked on the street. He also brought up the dangers of campers and trailers parking the wrong way on city streets.

Police Chief Scott Edinger informed the council that looking into the calls for service, he was unaware of any incidents ever involving those items.

He pointed out that the city could take several different routes in dealing with the situation, including banning them from city streets completely.

Buchanan said he wasn’t sure which way to go concerning the situation.

Edinger stated that the council should avoid banning them completely from city streets, citing one community that had attempted to do so.

Mayor Katie Andersen said based off what the chief had reported, maybe the best course of action was to just amend the current ordinance and require reflective tape on campers and trailers parked reverse on city streets.

The committee unanimously approved to amend the ordinance and require individuals to place reflective tape on the front of campers and trailers if they park backwards on city streets.

In other news, a Northwest Water Main Rehabilitation District was created and bids were received for a new 3 Cubic Yard 4-wheel drive loader and new 2 Stage Snow Blower for the city. Those will be discussed in full at the August City Council meeting.
