CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Public School District lost 22 students last year. Superintendent Josh Johnson said there are a variety of reasons including more people home schooling their children. He said it appears the federal Common Core Standards also attributed to some people leaving the district.
Johnson said the school district will lose funding being a majority of the districts receive most of their income based on the state per pupil funding formula which is $10,000 per student.
The Valley City school district had 1,088 students in the fall of 2016 by the end of the 2017 school year that number dropped to 1,066.
The topic was discussed during the annual school board meeting on July 25th. Johnson said the issue will be addressed again during the annual School Board Retreat on August 3rd.
