N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Game & Fish Department has reported a record number of walleye has been stocked in fisheries around the state.

Jerry Weigel, fisheries production and development supervisor, said more than 12 million fingerlings were stocked, besting the previous high by more than 1 million fish. Game & Fish Research Biologist Doug Leier says stocking can be important for the future.

Leier reports that the stocked fingerlings are vital for the future of the fish in state waters.

Leier says the fish need a few years to develop before they are released. He also took time to stress safety when those are swimming on waters this summer.
