N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – There’s a stigma surrounding suicide and the talks that could possibly save a life.

Unite to Silence the Stigma is a group whose goal is to completely eliminate that stigma.

The organization holds events every year including their Out of the Darkness Walks and their ever growing Ride to Silence the Stigma. Margo Haut is the chairperson for the group.

Haut pointed out that the club raises money and awareness so they can eliminate the stigma associated with mental health issues to prevent loss to suicide.

One of the groups member’s Chad McLeod became involved when he lost his son to suicide.

Nicole Morlock, another member of the group, says that suicide has impacted her life several times from different people.

She stated that the organization has provided her help with coping and talking about it to spread the word of silencing the stigma.

Haut says that suicide or other mental health issues need to be discussed. And when help is needed, help needs to be sought.

The 4th Annual Ride to Silence the Stigma will be held Sunday, July 16th at Stutsman Harley Davidson with registration starting at 11 AM and kickstands going up at 12:30 PM. Money raised will stay local and go towards education, awareness, and future events in Jamestown that will bring mental health issues out of the darkness and into the light.
