A. Arbuckle, also known as “Chief”, 86, of Jamestown, ND, passed away from cancer at Eventide Assisted Living Center, Jamestown, under the care of great staff and JRMC Hospice.
Raymond Albert Arbuckle was born January 16, 1931 in Bluffton, MN to Vern and Emelia (Weller) Arbuckle. He attended school through 8th grade at Sibley Trail School. He was fortunate to marry the love of his life December 2, 1950 and together they had four children in Hannaford, ND. Ray started his career working for the railroad and then went to work the oil fields in western North Dakota. Eventually they settled permanently in Hannaford where he opened Ray’s Barber Shop. While running the barber shop he also farmed and helped implement the startup of Arbuckle Trucking with his three sons.
Ray was active in the community of Hannaford with youth baseball and youth swimming. Ray’s hobbies included going to local parades with his horse and buggies/sleighs. But what brought greatest joy to Ray were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would make sure to attend as many of their activities as possible.
Upon coming to Jamestown, Trinity Lutheran Church became part of his family as Ray’s faith was a very important part of his life. He found much joy and companionship in his new best friend Miss Hana, the golden retriever. She never left his side. Although his stay was short at Eventide Assisted Living, he quickly befriended the staff and community.
His passion to learn and love for life will never be forgotten.
Ray is survived by his sons, Jerome (Mary) Arbuckle, Thomas (Barbara) Arbuckle, and Donald Arbuckle; daughter, Patti (Timothy) Arbuckle; and awesome grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern & Emelia Arbuckle; wife, Jeanette Arbuckle; and granddaughter, Andrea Rose Arbuckle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church, JRMC Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
