Lorraine Fairfield was born November 16th, 1920 in Portland, Oregon to Fred and Cecelia (Bowen) Kennison. She was baptized in the Portland Church of the Assumption. She made her first communion and was confirmed in St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND.

She was educated at St. James Academy in Jamestown and graduated in 1939 from Jamestown High School as an honor student. She was a charter member of the Jamestown High School Quill and Scroll and was desk editor of the Blue Jay News.

She married Darrel (Jake) Fairfield in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 7, 1939. They made their home in Eldridge, North Dakota where they were engaged in farming and ranching.

Lorraine’s first job was for William Gussner. She also worked at the United States Forest Service, was employed with J.C. Penney and was the assistant manager of Fashion City. She was employed as clerk/business manager of Eldridge School for thirty years. She was a correspondent for the Jamestown Sun for forty years. She also taught piano for forty years.

Lorraine was very proud to have successfully testified before the North Dakota Legislature on the issue of changing the name from ‘school district clerk’ to ‘school district business manager.’ She was editor of the School District Business Managers quarterly newspaper until her retirement in 1994 and was vice-president of the North Dakota School District Managers and chairperson for District 6 for the state.

Lorraine was president of the Eldridge PTA and treasurer of St. John’s Lutheran Women of the Church for several years. She was a member of Prairie Homemakers Council.

She loved writing poetry and short stories: winning several writing awards. She loved history and collected historical information about Eldridge and Jamestown. She enjoyed music and playing the piano. She could play the piano by ear allowing her to enjoy playing piano into her ninety-sixth year, even after her impaired vision prevented her from reading music.

She was an active and ardent Democrat and was the Democratic Precinct Chairman for many years.

Lorraine loved to do crossword puzzles, play pinochle and bridge, and she loved to watch Jeopardy. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland and England, her ancestral home. But most of all, she loved her family.

She is survived by two children: Marilyn Entzminger, Gackle, ND and Patricia Fairfield (Rodney Mickelson), Queen Creek, AZ; seven grandchildren: Charles McLaughlin, Coeur D’Alene, ID, Wade McLaughlin, Bloomington, MN, April Fairfield DeLap (Steven DeLap), Bismarck, ND, John Fairfield, Eldridge, ND, Jacci Baker (Lowell), Spiritwood, ND, Erin Entzminger, Bismarck ND, and Kristen Boyd, Peoria, AZ; and four great-grandchildren: Kennedy DeLap, Jacob Baker, Olivia Baker, and Kaylee Boyd; a sister: Delores Theuerkauf, Bayside, CA; and dear friend: Marge Lange, Jamestown, ND.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years; her parents; a son, Darrel Fairfield; two sisters, Anita Fischer and Betty (Bowen) Lockard; two brothers: Ralph Kennison and Robert Kennison; a granddaughter, Jeffrey Lynn Fairfield; a grandson, Thomas Paul Fairfield; and a son-in-law, Dennis Entzminger.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Erik Weber officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Interment: Eldridge Cemetery, Eldridge, ND.
