CITY (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Post 60 American Legion baseball team went 2-1 in the Leevers Classic at Charlie Brown Memorial Field over the weekend.
Post 60 won their first game of the season Saturday, as they defeated Hillsboro/Central Valley 7-2. Stephan Brooks earned the win, going six innings, with six strikeouts. Drew Oberlander was two for three, with a two-run home run and a double.
In the second game Saturday, Casselton Post 15 soared past Post 60 12-0 in five innings. Casselton scored four runs in each the first and second innings, and in the third saw Drew Roden register a two-run inside-the-park home run. Cole McGoff took the loss, lasting just three innings, surrendering 10 runs on nine hits, with just two strikeouts.
On Sunday, Post 60 played their best game of the weekend, with a convincing 10-0 victory over Jamestown Post 14 in six innings. Valley City brought eight men to the plate in the third inning, and all nine in the fourth, scoring six runs during that span. Sam Jenson earned the win, going six innings of shutout ball; allowing six hits and striking out five. Justin Manson had two hits and double for Post 60.
Casselton won the tournament, going 3-0 after coming back to defeat Hillsboro/Central Valley earlier in the day 7-5; with three runs in the top of the seventh. HCV was 1-2, with a 10-0 win against Jamestown to start the day, while Jamestown was 0-3 over the weekend.
