N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – An independent music festival set out on the prairie is coming back for its second official year.
The Prairie Pothole Music Festival last year brought jams to outdoor spaces next to Little Antelope Lake, about six miles north of Anamoose, N.D. The effort was undertaken by two business partners who wanted to expand the use of their outfitting lodge and found music to be the ideal endeavor.
“I’ve been holding events like this for friends and family for years, and decided that it was time to make something official out of it,” said organizer John Wardner. “Music is a big part of my life. With so many different, fantastic musical acts in North Dakota right now, it seemed like a no-brainer.”
Last year, four acts performed, including previous and current winners of the North Dakota Music Awards Best Bluegrass Band: respectively, The Flea-Bitten Tramps and Northern Light. This year, 18 acts representing a wide range of genres will play on two stages on July 14-15. Organizers are hoping for modest growth, and have made 200 tickets available through their website, as well as at Rhythm Records and Café in Bismarck, and at Nola’s Lounge in Minot.
This year’s lineup includes Jon Wayne and the Pain, Wayne Suchy, Boreal Gardens, Northern Light, Wild Hands, Kids With Beards, Aitas, Cold Sweat, New Reign, Clashic, Dose, Fuzz & The Guns, Jessica Norman and the Gentle Souls, Jobiwaan, Johnny Spud, Micah Scott, Reverend’s Roadshow, and Lodge Beats.
