FORKS, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Much needed rain hit the region as powerful storms plowed through southeastern North Dakota and Western Minnesota last night.
The Fargo-Moorhead area was hit with wind gust clocked at 70 mph. One to two inch rainfall reported in a very short time. The downpour caused street flooding and the wind caused tree damage.
Xcel Energy reported more than 3,000 customers in the Fargo and West Fargo were without power at the height of the storm. The strong wind toppled trees causing damage to parked vehicles, some homes and garages in Fargo.
At least 11 power poles on the Dakota Valley Electric Cooperative system were snapped along a road north of Fairmount, North Dakota in Richland County. ?
The Minnesota State Patrol reported four semi rigs blown over on I-94 near Rothsay, MN.
In Valley City, a tree was toppled in the Skyline Villa area and rainfall amounts of 1 inch, 1.5 and 1.75 inches reported in Valley City gauge.
National Weather Service forecaster Dan Riddle said there was a lot of wind damage reported in the Wahpeton and Fargo area east toward west central Minnesota. He said so far there has been no official confirmation of a tornado.
