CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Water usage hit a record high of 1.5 million gallons on June 5th in Valley City.

Water Plant Supervisor Wade Hesch said the drier weather may have caused the spike in water usage.

Hesch said treating higher sulfate levels coming down from two Devils Lake outlets is hard on one instrumental piece of equipment.

Hesch gave a report to the city commission during a city finance meeting yesterday. He suggested that city residents should water their lawns at night and not during the heat of the day to maximize efficiency.

City Administrator David Schelkoph said no water restrictions are in place now or for the foreseeable future in Valley City. Schelkoph said the new water treatment plant can produce a maximum of four million gallons of water a day.
