funeral service for Samuel Rienstra, 91, Valley City, North Dakota, formerly of Litchville, North Dakota will be 2 pm Friday, June 9, 2017 at First Reformed Church, Litchville. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church. He died Sunday evening, June 4, at the Sheyenne Care Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

?Samuel Rienstra was born October 9, 1925 to Jacob and Cobie (Wolvendyke) Rienstra at Pollock, South Dakota. He attended school in Emmons County when they lived by Westfield, North Dakota. He moved with his family to south of the Litchville, North Dakota area in 1936 where Sam attended the Griswold School. He worked on the family farm and later on the Ted Curtis Turkey Farm by Hannaford, North Dakota. He later drove taxi cab in Valley City. In 1962, he started farming with his brother John.

?He was united in marriage to Martha Gahlhoff Hill on February 27, 1965. They continued to farm. Martha passed away on May 29, 1985. Sam married Ethel Roorda on Jan 27, 1987. He retired from farming in 1988. Ethel passed away on July 26, 1991.

?Sam was a member of First Reformed Church where he had also served on the church board.? He is survived by his brother, John (Fern) Rienstra, Litchville, several nieces and nephews, stepchildren, and step-great-grandchildren.

?Sam was preceded in death by his parents, wives, a brother, Conrad Rienstra, and four sisters, Lucy Van Bruggen Christenson, Rena Van Bruggen, Mae Van Bruggen and Katherine Busche. ?Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel.
