CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The city of Valley City and Barnes County are a step closer to finalizing a joint agreement that focuses on truck regulation and enforcement within the city.

Under the joint resolution both parties agree to exercise their respective powers for the regulation and enforcement of all hauling permits, weight limits, road restrictions, administrative fees and fines.

The Barnes County Commission discussed the joint agreement during their regular commission meeting on June 6th. Below is the audio from that meeting.

Barnes County Sheriff Randy McClaflin said the county would provide deputies for regulation and enforcement if the city requests it. Under the agreement, McClaflin said the county will receive 60 percent of the fees and fines while the city will receive 40 percent for a city request for service.

Valley City Police Chief Phil Hatcher said the joint agreement will help enforce truck regulations in the city.

The Barnes County commission approved of the joint resolution yesterday and the city of Valley City will discuss it at their next regular meeting on June 20th.
