N.D. (NewsDakota.com)- Hailey Schaefer and Kacee White drove in runs to break a 4-4 tie in the top of the 6th in The Hi-Liners 7-4 win over Fargo North in the state consolation semifinals. Valley City will face Minot Saturday morning at 10 am for 5th place. The Spartans season ends with a 16-10 record.
A day after getting no hit, Grace Scherr led the game off with a single. She would later score on an error and Kacee White was brought home on a single from Hailey Schaefer. Valley City tagged on runs in the 2nd and 3rd to go ahead 4-0. Fargo North came back with 3 runs in the home half of the 3rd;Ava Kalbrener plated 2. The Spartans scored the tying run in the 4th on a RBI ground out by Taya Opheim. The score stood for an inning before the four run 7th. In the bottom of the 7th Schaefer set down North in order to secure the win.
Schaefer finished with 2 RBI, Scherr went 2 for 3 with a run and RBI. Becca Thompson had 2 hits and 2 runs.Neither starting pitcher figured in the decision. Gabby Olek was the losing pitcher;Schaefer picked up the win.
