(NewsDakota.com) In a game that was played out in roughly two hours and 45 minutes, the Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team rallied to defeat Ellendale Post 137 13-12 Thursday night at Cummings Field.
Post 137 walked the first six consecutive batters in the bottom of the seventh to allow Oakes to have a legitimate chance to win the ballgame. Adam Neustal drove in Taylor Schall and Grayson Roney with a single up the middle to walk it off for Post 36, and give them their first win of the season.
Jordan Cunningham was the winning pitcher, the third used by Oakes in the game. The loss went to Kyle Johnson, in Ellendale’s first game of the season. Both team’s starting pitchers; Luke Wertz for Post 137 and Taylor Schall for Post 36, were credited with no decisions.
Oakes next heads out on the road to Farimount on Wednesday to meet Fairmount-Hankinson. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 5:50, with first pitch at 6 p.m.
