(NewsDakota.com) In their opening contest of the 2017 North Dakota Class B American Legion season, the boys from Enderlin Post 221 came out on top in a 10-3 victory in Oakes Tuesday night against Post 36.

The Railcats (1-0) scored the first two runs of the game off of three hits. Post 36 pulled to within one in the bottom of the first, but would get no closer, as Post 221 picked up runs in the second and fourth, before scoring a pair in the fifth, and another three in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Brandon Utke earned the victory, lasting six innings, and surrendered just two hits while striking out four. Dustin Kasowski scored three times and had three hits, including a double.

Michael Kelly took the loss for Post 36 (0-1), going four innings, allowing six hits while striking out four. Kelly had a double in the 5th; which turned out to be Oakes’ lone extra base hit.

Post 36 next suits up on Thursday, June 1 when they welcome Ellendale Post 137. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts at 6:50 p.m., with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
