N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The community of Wimbledon now has a new soldier statue as part of a veterans memorial.
For the last two years, the community has held a community steak night, which has been a major source of funding for the memorial according to the Wimbledon Newsletter. The first two years of the steak dinner fundraising went to the city park’s playground equipment.
Three years later, approximately $100,000 were raised through the fundraiser and other donations.
The statue came from Minnesota and Jamestown Monument did the engraving and design.
“It looks like metal, but is actually made of cement. [It’s] like the firefighter statue in front of the Jamestown Fire station,” the newsletter reports.
Volunteers Marv Martin, Bruce Meikle, Bret Feher and Jerry Steckler, and Jim & Jan Martin used leftover, donated sod from another project in Wimbledon on May 22nd.
